To Sell or Not to Sell

Part of the master plan is to sell the house. If I'm going to be permanently on the road, I don't want to be tied to any mortgage. The whole point of this big life change is to be free of all attachments.

But the way the economy is going, it's not looking like that will be possible without selling at a loss. Instead, I may have to rent out the place while I'm away. Not ideal.

Maybe I can rent it out for a little while until things stabilize, & then sell it when I can get a fair price for it. Anyone know of a good property management company?

"Sell the house! Sell the car! Sell the kids! I'm not coming home!" If you can tell me what movie that is from I'll be impressed.

My opinion for whatever it's worth... selling now would be a mistake if you cannot make a profit. It's a bad market to sell. Renting it out will give you some passive income and a place to come back to should you ever decide to go that route. Trust me, in this "life on the road", a backup plan is always a good thing. Some might say that my attitude is like those who sign a prenup expecting the marriage to end in divorce. I just think it's smart planning.

As for a mgmt company, as a realtor in Florida, I worked for a rather large firm which had their own management company. They were pretty reasonable in fees and they screened tenants for you. They also took care of all maintenance and payment collections. You might try some of the larger realtors in the area. Hope that helps.
